Demeter

Demeter is the goddess of grain, corn, the harvest, the earth, of agriculture, and of fertility in general.  She makes the crop grow every year.  The first loaf of bread from the crop is sacraficed to her.  She is the daughter of Cronus and Rhea.  Hades abducted Demeter's daughter Persephone to be his wife in the underworld.  Demeter was so mad she withered the whole world.  Zesus commanded Hades to let Persephone to come home to Demeter, but Persephone had been eaten away while in the underworld.  She was condemned to four months a year in the underworld.  During this time Demeter grieves for her daughter, this is winter.
